Step by step: how to draw Muggulu Sankranthi Muggulu Pongal Kolam

1. Mark the 9-to-3 dot grid.
2. On the top, bottom, left and right draw a lotus of four diamond petals rising from a straight base on the outer side, with the petals pointing in toward the centre.
3. Join neighbouring lotuses along the four diagonals with slanted double-line bands so that the outline closes into an eight-sided frame.
4. In the centre draw a square with a dot in the middle and nested arcs in each of its four corners.
5. On each side of the square add a pointed petal — top, bottom, left and right.
6. Over each diagonal band draw two crossing eye shapes — one upright, one level — with a dot where they cross.
7. At the middle of the top, bottom, left and right edges fan dot-tipped lines inward over the lotus petals, and on the outer side draw a spiral flanked by two curls.
8. On the four diagonal sides outside the frame add a small flower of rounded petals with dots.
