Step by step: how to draw Simple Rice Flour Kolam
- Mark the 7-to-1 dot grid — the middle row of 7 dots, rows stepping down to a single dot at the top and bottom.
- On the middle row draw three diamonds in a row with their corners touching, and fill each with a cross-hatched lattice.
- Above the middle diamond draw a lamp with a flame, and on either side of it a curved petal with an inner vein bending outward so the group reads as a lotus.
- Below the middle diamond mirror the lamp bowl and the petal pair, and hang a pointed bud with a dotted edge and two spiral tendrils from it.
- At each end of the row draw a side-facing flower of rounded petals with a spiral at its heart, and add spiral curls above and below it.
- Edge the top and bottom buds with dots, fill the petals with a dusting of white and go over the outlines in white.
