Step by step: how to draw Traditional Rangoli Designs 16 Dots

1. Mark the 16-to-2 dot grid.
2. Write HAPPY down the vertical centre line, with its Y on the middle row.
3. Write NEW to the left of the Y and EAR to the right so NEW YEAR reads across the middle row.
4. Continue 2020 down the centre line below the Y.
5. In each of the four quarters draw a rose — a spiral bud cupped in pointed lotus petals — with the bud turned towards the lettering.
6. Behind each rose draw a pointed calyx whose lines meet in a sharp tip aimed at the outer corner.
7. On each flower's stems draw two lobed leaves with curled edges — one towards the outer side and one towards the top or bottom.
