Step by step: how to draw 10 Dots Muggulu Kolam Patterns

1. Mark the 10 to 10 dot grid.
2. In the centre draw a small circle and ring it with four rounded petals — top, bottom, left and right — with a pointed leaf in each diagonal gap.
3. Enclose the flower in a square, then on each of the four sides build a stepped meander: straight lines turning at right angles from dot to dot, the two halves of each side mirrored.
4. Continue the stepped lines on the outer rows so each side reads as interlocking right-angled brackets — a key pattern.
5. Across each corner of the grid draw a straight diagonal line joining the outer end of the top or bottom meander to the outer end of the side meander, cutting off the corner.
6. Outside each diagonal, in the grid corner, draw a sprig of three small leaves.
7. Re-trace all lines in white.
