Step by step: how to draw Simple Alpona Designs
- Mark the 6-to-6 dot grid — six rows of six dots.
- Treat the grid as nine blocks of four dots and draw an X across the centre block and the middle block on each side, so five crosses form a plus.
- Extend the lines of the crosses into an interlaced star framework that links all five.
- In the centre draw a four-petal flower — pointed petals on the vertical and horizontal, each holding a dot on a stem.
- Put a spiral in each of the four diagonal gaps around the flower.
- Draw a small heart at the end of each of the four arms.
- Wrap each small heart in a larger heart outline so four big lobed hearts form the outer edge.
- Draw a square around the four-dot block on each corner and join it to the framework with a diagonal line.
