Step by step: how to draw Beautiful Muggulu Designs

1. Mark the 5 to 5 dot grid — five rows of five dots.
2. Draw an X across the 2-by-2 block of dots in each quarter of the grid.
3. Extend the arms of the four Xs so they join into a lattice of diagonal lines — a diamond around the centre with a cell on each of its four sides.
4. In the centre draw a four-petal flower, the petals pointing to the sides, with a short dotted stalk between each pair of petals.
5. In each of the four side cells draw two spiral curls facing each other with a small arch of dots between them.
6. Around the outside draw eight pointed petal loops — two at each corner of the lattice, one pointing up or down and one pointing sideways.
7. Add a small pointed bud on a stalk at the middle of the top and bottom edges and a pointed leaf with a dotted stalk at the middle of the left and right edges.
8. Re-trace the outlines in white.
