Step by step: how to draw Vilakku Kolam With Dots

1. Mark the 7-to-1 dot grid — a diamond of rows widening from 1 dot to 7 and back to 1.
2. On the top, bottom, left and right of the grid draw four flowers, each with four heart-shaped petals around a small circle, and two short lines inside every petal.
3. In the centre draw a small flower — a circle with a dot, ringed by eight rounded petals.
4. On each of the four diagonals between the large flowers draw three pointed leaves fanning from one point and fill them in white.
5. At the outer end of each leaf cluster draw a small lily with stamen lines, tipped with a leaf edged in short fringe strokes.
6. Add a spiral curl beyond each large flower — above the top flower, below the bottom one and out to each side.
