Step by step: how to draw New Year Chukkala Muggulu

1. Mark the 8-to-8 dot grid — eight rows of eight dots in a square.
2. In the centre draw a small square, overlay a diamond on it to make an eight-pointed star, and place a dot ringed with eight small dots inside.
3. On the top, bottom, left and right draw a pair of overlapping diamonds, so their overlap forms a small diamond in the middle.
4. In the four diagonal gaps between the diamond pairs draw a spiral curl.
5. On each of the four corners draw a large flower of two rounded lobes and a heart-shaped inner petal around a bud fringed with short strokes.
6. Fill the corner lobes with a light wash of white.
