Step by step: how to draw Beautiful Kolam & Rangoli Designs with Dots Easy Beginners Tutorial

1. Mark the 9-to-1 dot grid — a diamond of dots tapering to a single dot at each end.
2. In the centre draw a small circle round a dot, frame it with four inward-curving lines that meet in points, and enclose it in a square.
3. Enclose the square in a larger diamond whose four points reach out to the top, bottom, left and right.
4. At each point of the diamond draw a diamond tile and fill it with a criss-cross lattice of lines.
5. In each of the four diagonal gaps draw a pair of curved leaves, the outer leaf marked with a dot.
6. Flank each lattice tile with two spiral curls.
7. Beyond each lattice tile draw a lotus bud of pointed petals opening outward.
