Step by step: how to draw Awesome 7×7 Dots Kolam Designs

1. Mark the 7-to-7 dot grid.
2. In the centre draw a diamond and place an eight-petal flower with a dot centre inside it.
3. Frame the diamond with a broad diamond band and fill each of its four sides with slanting stripes.
4. At each corner of the band draw a bow of two small petals with stamen strokes, and beyond it a heart pointing in toward the centre with a spiral curled inside — one heart above, below, left and right.
5. In each of the four diagonal gaps draw a pointed leaf with a teardrop inside and a fringe of dots round its edge.
6. Link the hearts with an outer square of curving lines and spiral curls, and set a filled pointed petal on each of the four outer corners.
7. Beyond the rounded top of each heart draw a small flower of rounded petals around a dot.
