Step by step: how to draw Kolam for New Year 2024
- Mark the 8 to 2 dot grid — rows shrinking from 8 down to 2 — to space the lettering.
- Write WELCOME in tall capital letters across the middle row.
- Write 2024 down the centre column — the 2 and 0 above the word, the 2 and 4 below it — so the figures cross the word at its middle.
- In each of the four spaces between the figures and the word draw a lotus bud — a pointed centre petal with two side petals opening toward the corner — and vein the petals with short inner strokes.
- From the base of each bud curl a spiral stem toward the column of figures.
- Edge the outer side of each bud with a fan of short strokes tipped with dots.
- Thicken the letters and figures with a second pass of white.
