Step by step: how to draw New Year Kolam 2023
- Mark the 8-to-2 dot grid.
- Across the middle draw a long scroll banner with a spiral roll at each end and write HAPPY NEW YEAR inside it.
- Above the banner draw a rounded box and write 2023 in it.
- On top of the box draw a rounded frame holding a four-petal butterfly-shaped flower with two small spirals at its base and a short dotted stem at its tip, then sweep a spiral tendril out on each side.
- Below the banner in the centre draw a spiral rose with three broad petals — left, right and below — each marked with short stripes, and a small eight-petal flower just above it.
- From the rose curve a stem out to each side ending in a spiral, and beside it draw a large paisley leaf filled with dots.
- On each outer edge add a small flower of rounded petals around a dot and finish with a curling tendril beneath it.
